EmailFBI Dedicates Scholarship Honoring 1st Female Agent Killed in Duty
Current and former FBI agents are remembering the first female agent killed in the line of duty, at her grave in Mendota Heights. They've dedicated a scholarship in honor to keep her legacy alive.
Robin Ahrens graduated from Hudson High School in Wisconsin in 1970, then went on to join the FBI. In 1985, she died during a mission, becoming the first female agent killed in the line of duty. Friday October 5 marks the anniversary of her death.
In Ahren's honor, the Former FBI Agent's Society dedicated a $1,550 dollar scholarship to go to one young woman from Hudson High, Ahren's alma mater, pursuing a career in criminal justice.
Deborah Pierce from the Society of Former FBI Agents explained "Its very special. Because she was here in Minnesota, it's important to keep her memory alive."
Approximately 15% of FBI agents in Minnesota are women. Nationwide, 18% of the approximately 13,000 FBI agents are women.
