Changes Could Come to Lake St-35W Interchange

Major changes may be coming to one of the busiest intersections in Minneapolis.

Tuesday the Minneapolis City Council put its support behind a plan to overhaul the Lake Street - 35W interchange in South Minneapolis.

Three big changes would come with this project. First and foremost, a large bus station in the middle of 35W with access to Lake Street and the Midtown Greenway. Two off-ramps would also be added. One to Lake Street from southbound 35W, and another from northbound 35W to 28th Street.

There still won't be an on-ramp from lake street to 35W north because of its $37 million price tag.

That was one of many cuts to get the project from $500 million down to $114 million, the biggest reason the project has been held up for so many years.
