9 Hour Standoff Ends with Bloomington Man in Custody

A suspect is in custody after a nine hour standoff on the 8900 block of Nicollet Avenue in Bloomington.

According to Bloomington Deputy Rick Hart, a person walking by a vacant home around 4:16 a.m. said a laser light was directed at his body and that he also saw the laser light directed at a passing car.

The man called police, who arrived on the scene.

Police say officers went to the house and were confronted with verbal threats from the man inside. Police also say the laser light was directed at the officer.

Police were concerned the laser could be connected to a gun, and the SWAT team was called.

Officers shot tear gas into the home, and the man escaped to his apartment across the street.

Officers shot tear gas and explosives into the man's apartment.

The man was only wearing underwear when officers pulled him out of his apartment. He was arrested around 1:45 p.m.

Traffic was blocked during the standoff on 90th Street and Nicollet Avenue in the area.

At this point, additional details have not been released.
