Mpls. Police: Man Calls 911 to Lure, Harm Officers

Park police officers were allegedly lured into ambush by a fake robbery call.

According to Minneapolis Police, a man called 911 around 11 p.m. Tuesday claiming to be the victim of a robbery.

The man, later identified as 38-year-old Marsenior Pede Johnson, said he was robbed at knifepoint by multiple suspects. He said he was near West Minnehaha Parkway and Bryant Avenue South.

When police officers arrived, they went to talk to Johnson, who they thought was the victim of the reported robbery.

Johnson stabbed one officer in the chest, then assaulted the second officer and stabbed her in the upper back. She fell to her street, which caused a significant laceration to her head.

The officer who was stabbed in the chest, shot Johnson.

Both officers were treated and released from the hospital.

In an interview with police Johnson admitted that he called 911 to report being robbed. He said he wanted to hurt police officers when they arrived to talk to him.

Johnson is currently under guard at Hennepin County Medical Center. He will later be booked at Hennepin County Jail.

Authorities initially reported this incident as a robbery. They later learned the suspect had made the 911 call to lure the officers to the area to harm them.
