10-Year-Old Boy Recognized for Saving Sister

Rodrigo Sosa's grace under pressure helped medics save his sister and earned him national honors.

Sosa was designated a Local 911 Hero at a ceremony Monday night in Minneapolis.

Sosa's two-year old sister had a seizure last May. Sosa was 9-years old at the time and was the only member of his family able to speak English well. So it was Sosa who had to call 911.

Sosa talked with the dispatcher and paramedics while simultaneously translating for his frantic mother.

Ultimately, Sosa's sister recovered. The 911 dispatcher was so impressed she nominated Sosa for the award. The dispatcher, Lori Patrick, was also recognized for the way she handled Sosa's call.

Sosa has two pieces of advice for other children who may be forced to call 911 under pressure: stay calm and don't shout.
