Drowning Victim’s Memorial Vandalized by West Metro Rivals

A few cans of green and white paint have turned into a huge uproar in the West Metro.

Over the weekend, someone spray painted Edina High School colors on a rock outside Minnetonka High School; that was decorated in memory of Kennedy Maddox.

Now, the rock has been painted Minnetonka blue again, but the hard feelings aren’t quite as easy to cover up.

"It's a really big deal, you don't come to our school, to our turf, and vandalize our school,” said Tana Larson a Minnetonka High School Freshman.

Larson wasn’t alone in her anger, soon the students’ Facebook and Twitter feeds were a buzz over this act of vandalism, “it was unacceptable, very rude,“ she went on to say.

No one knows for sure if the vandals knew the rock had been decorated in memory of Kennedy Maddox.  The senior drowned June 26^th on Lake Minnetonka, off of Big Island.

Student Reade Selcke says it shouldn’t matter, “f they saw on the rock that Kennedy's name was on it; they should have left it alone."

Someone decided to get back at Edina High School by spray-painting the sidewalks there, but school custodians quickly cleaned it up.

Edina High School’s principal believes they have found the students behind the vandalism in Minnetonka, and that they will be punished.  Privacy laws prohibit them from telling us any more.

Dr. Bruce Locklear, Edina High School’s Principal remarked, “I called the Minnetonka principal this morning to extend my heartfelt apologies - we feel so bad about this, especially the ideology around the rock as a memorial."

Locklear says tomorrow the captains of the Edina High School football team will be hand delivering an apology letter to Minnetonka High School.  The idea is that the rivalry between these two West Metro schools will stay on the field. 

A spokesperson for Minnetonka School District says she believes the “actions of a few (Edina) students, aren’t reflective of the entire student body.”
