Power Outage Halts Rides, Closes Valleyfair

A power outage has brought the fun to a halt at Valleyfair. Xcel Energy says equipment failure caused the outage just after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Officials closed the park down for the rest of the evening, although Xcel says power was restored around 6 p.m. 

Several people were stuck on rides when the power went out. One group of teenage girls tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they had just got on the Wild Thing and were part way up the first hill when the power went out. They say they were stuck on the ride for about 20 minutes before they had to climb the stairs along the side of the ride down to safety.

Several calls to Valleyfair officials have not been returned, but customers tell us they have received refunds.

There are no reports of injuries.
