Boys Find Body in St. Croix River Near Afton

Authorities have pulled a body from the St. Croix River near Afton, and they were led to the body by a group of boys across from Windmill Marina.

Twelve-year-old Alex Moeller and his pals first thought it was a log, or even a dead animal.  

But once they saw the person was wearing clothes, they radioed shore for help.

And as shocking as the experience was, they know they are helping the victim's family.

Moeller said, "It is sad that he had to die, but it is happy that we found him; his family can get some closure, and he can rest in peace."

Deputies from Washington County and St. Croix County responded and located the body.
    
Authorities say the body had been in the water for a long time. Deputies were not able to identify the body.
    
The body was taken to the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.
