Plan to Control Invasive Species Presented to Minnehaha Creek Watershed District

A group called The Coalition of Minnehaha Creek Waters presented what they termed a "big, bold plan" to control aquatic invasive species to the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District in Orono Thursday night.

The groups plan would require 100 percent of boats be inspected before entering water in the watershed. Boats would be inspected at some boat ramps, and at off-site regional inspection stations. Ramps without inspectors would have keypad controlled gates boaters could access after being inspected.

The plan is estimated to cost $8 million over five years. The group wants the watershed district to pay for the first year.
