1 Killed, 2 Injured in Mall of America Parking Ramp Accident
One person was killed and two others were injured when a U-Haul rental truck crashed into an overhead beam in the west parking ramp at the Mall of America.
Emergency crews were called to the ramp just after 8 p.m. Friday.
Deputy Chief Rick Hart of Bloomington Police says the truck was too tall for the ramp and hit the non-structural beam as it entered.
The concrete beam crashed down, crushing the truck's cab.
The 52-year-old man driving the truck died at the scene. A 45-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter were also in the truck at the time of the crash. They were able to get out and were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crews were on scene assessing the structural integrity of the ramp Friday night after the accident.
Hart said Saturday a small portion of the ramp will be closed for the weekend, but mall visitors can still access the ramp from Killebrew Drive.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident.
