Woodbury Shoots for $21M Sports Complex

The new sports complex would be an expansion and improvement at the current Bielenberg Sports Center. It would have three hockey rinks - two inside and one outside.  It would tear down the current dome and when winter sets in, there would be indoor baseball, soccer, lacrosse, football and golf.

No other metro area city has such a venue and Woodbury is hoping it would attract players and people year round.

City officials say no tax increases are needed for the project. They say it would be funded by existing tax levy money.

Woodbury has doubled in size to 63,000 people over the past two decades and they say it will grow to 85,000 people by 2030. So, the current Bielenberg facilities, they say, are not sufficient to handle that capacity unless it is dramatically improved.

The Woodbury City Council is expected to approve the project soon with construction starting in the spring of 2013 and completion expected in April 2014.
