Buffalo Man Sentenced in Deadly I-35 Crash in South Metro
A 38-year-old Buffalo man is headed to jail for a multi-vehicle crash that killed two people and an unborn baby in Lakeville.
A judge sentenced Jason Styrbicky to one year in the Dakota County Jail Tuesday. Styrbicky was convicted last year of three counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of careless driving.
The court found Styrbicky was driving negligently when he crashed his semi-tractor trailer into traffic on I-35 on May 24, 2010. Styrbicky told investigators he was reaching for an energy drink when he crashed into cars that were stuck in traffic.
Pamela Brinkhaus, 50, of Elko New Market and Kari Rasmussen, 24, of St. Anthony, along with Rasmussen's unborn baby were killed in the crash.
Styrbicky also faces 10 years probation and 40 hours of community service each year.
