Two New Richmond Teens Killed in Crash
The sport utility vehicle that slammed into the back of a semi near Hudson Monday afternoon was carrying four teens from New Richmond. Two are now dead. A third suffered life-threatening injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says the crash happened at 1:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Exit 3. The semi was stopped in heavy traffic when the SUV hit it.
Four teenage boys from New Richmond were in the SUV, the state patrol says.
16-year-old Jordan Johnson died at the scene. The state patrol said he was riding in the SUV's back seat and was not wearing a seatbelt.
17-year-old Joshua Goodrich was in the front passenger seat. He died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Early Tuesday morning, a state patrol spokesperson said the SUV's driver, 17-year-old Zachary Zajec was at Regions Hospital being treated for "critical head, chest and extremity injuries."
17-year-old Thomas Wanless was in the back seat and suffered non life-threatening injuries.
The 34-year-old driver of the semi was not hurt.
After the crash, the eastbound lanes were shut down until about 3:30 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
