Mosque Holds Open House in Plymouth

A mosque in Plymouth held an open house Friday night.

Leaders at the Northwest Islamic Community Center hoped to get to know their neighbors a little better and answer any questions about Islam. It's the holy month of Ramadan, and visitors ate with mosque members around 9.

There was some opposition when the plan was announced last August, but leaders say they feel very welcome in the community now.

"We wanted the neighbors to come and see us, we get to know each other as people and as neighbors, not just as those other people," said Tamim Saidi, who works with the center.

They encourage anybody who wants to learn more to stop by whenever, not just at the open house.

A mosque in St. Anthony was recently denied a permit by the city council.
