Savage Police: Injured Pit Bull May Have Been Hit by Vehicle

Savage Police say an injured pit bull is not believed to have been abducted or beaten.

The pit bull's owner said he believed someone had beat and stabbed the dog, then left it for dead.

Robert Cole is the owner of the 4-year-old pit bull, named Cesar.

On Thursday Cole told KSTP he believed someone opened the gate at his home, took Cesar and attacked him.

The dog, who managed to walk home, lost a lot of blood and almost died.

The Savage Police Department has been investigating this case.

Investigators believe that Cesar, and another dog escaped on their own from a fenced enclosure.

Witnesses reported seeing both dogs running in a several block area. At the time, both dogs were uninjured.

Police believe Cesar's injuries are consistent with injuries that may have been caused by being hit by a vehicle.

Cesar also returned home with writing on his fur. At this point, the writing on Cesar remains unexplained.

Cesar is now home and recovering. Midwest Animal Rescue and Services has set up a fund to help pay for the dog's medical expenses.

The Savage Police Department is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact them.
