EmailMinneapolis Replaces Traffic System
It's going to start to get quicker to drive through Minneapolis.
For the first time since 1974 the city is installing new traffic equipment to manage its 800 stoplights. This involves new equipment, plus re-timing light patterns.
The improvements will cost around $16 million, mostly paid for with federal grants.
"What the roadway users will see is a change within the signal timings themselves," said Steve Mosling of Minneapolis Traffic Control. "They'll see a more coordinated flow, we expect to see probably somewhere between 10 and 20 percent improvement in efficiency."
The new system is already installed on 25 lights, they expect the project to be complete in 2014.
