Man Who Hit, Killed 2 Workers on Twin Cities Highway Appears in Court
The man who hit and killed two workers on a Twin Cities highway faced a judge on Wednesday.
Twenty-two-year-old Kirk Deamos is charged with careless driving. Craig Carlson, of Ramsey, and Ronald Rajkowski, of St Joseph, were both killed in the crash on I-35W in Burnsville last October.
The families of the victims don't believe the misdemeanor charge of careless driving fits the crime and want a change in the law. Dakota County Attorney Jim Backstrom has pushed lawmakers to change state law and allow for a more severe penalty in cases like this.
Deamos next court appearance is set for September.
