Oakdale Bank Evacuated After Bomb Threat; Suspect in Custody

An Oakdale bank and nearby businesses were evacuated Wednesday morning after a man allegedly showed up demanding to speak with federal agents and indicating there was a bomb on site.

Police say the incident began around 7:40 a.m. when 45-year-old Matthew Klemmer of St. Paul approached an outside drive-up window at Lake Elmo Bank, located at 600 Inwood Avenue North.

A bank employee reported the alleged threat to police, who tased Klemmer and took him into custody.

The bank and nearby businesses were evacuated, and the St. Paul bomb squad was called to the scene.

Police say an item Klemmer left at the bank was X-rayed by bomb technicians; no incendiary or explosive materials were located.

No one was injured in the incident. Klemmer remains in the Washington County Jail awaiting formal charges.

An investigation by the Oakdale Police Department and the FBI is ongoing.
