Hastings Hopes for Federal Disaster Money after June Storms
Hastings was hit hard not once, but twice, the week of June 14, and the cleanup costs are piling up.
One city council member told us the costs could reach a quarter of a million dollars before it is all said and done. The city has a $75,000 emergency fund, but that could be eaten up quickly. More than a hundred homes were damaged during the storms that had straight line winds reach 80 miles-per-hour.
Right now, the city is asking the federal government for help, but they won't know if that help will come for yet another 30-60 days. All of Dakota County suffered about $2.5 million in damage, and they are also hoping for federal help.
Either way, it is hard for a small city like Hastings to handle such a big disaster without help from the Feds.
