AirExpo Brings Together Veterans, Plane Enthusiasts
An array of historic military and civilian aircraft are on display in Eden Prairie this weekend as part of AirExpo 2012.
Even better than seeing the planes up close? Hearing from the people who flew in them.
James Reiley trained in a B-17 back in his Air Force Days in the 1940s. Now age 92, Reiley was on-hand Saturday as the same model prepared to take flight.
"It means all engines are firing," Reiley said as he watched from nearby. "You're smooth, no problem, let's go."
Also at this weekend's event are two Vietnam War pilots who first encountered each other as enemies 15,000 feet in the air. Nearly 40 years after Dan Cherry shot down a MiG-21 piloted by Nguyen Hong My, the two men are now friends.
AirExpo 2012 continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie. Additional information about the event is available here.
