Blaine Soccer Tournament Host Considers Baseball

The National Sports Center in Blaine, which is hosting the USA Cup soccer tournament, may expand to include baseball.

The soccer tournament, which kicked off Friday, will feature 14,000 players from nearly 1,000 teams from all over the world. Organizers estimate visitors from out of state will spend $20 million during the nine-day tournament.

But that's not big enough for the National Sports Center.

It plans to build additional playing fields on 80 acres it already owns. Besides playing fields, the Center is also considering building a 16-24 field baseball complex. It's an untapped market that could generate more revenue if successful.

The Center is attempting to determine whether enough teams would be willing to travel to Blaine for a large tournament.

It hopes to make a decision regarding baseball this fall.
