St. Paul Accuses Website of Allowing Child Trafficking
Backpage.com does not allow solicitations for prostitution, but city leaders are demanding the site make some drastic changes.
On Tuesday, the Ramsey County Board passed a resolution demanding backpage.com shut down the adult section of its classified advertisements. The St. Paul City Council is expected to pass a similar resolution Wednesday afternoon.
City leaders say the website is a platform for child sexual trafficking.
Some of the advertisements we reviewed include partial nudity, hourly rates, and girls that appear younger than their posted age.
Backpage.com says it's the responsibility of site visitors to report child exploitation and trafficking.
An advocacy group that helps get prostitutes off the street says young girls working as prostitutes in the Twin Cities use the website to advertise.
