Hennepin County Takes Over Hopkins 9-1-1 Dispatch Services

Starting next month, Hennepin County will take over a 36th city's 9-1-1 services.
Facing expensive equipment upgrades, Hopkins decided it wasn't worth the cost of having it's own dispatch center. The city says the switch will not affect police response times and save $300,000 a year.
Hopkins will not lay off any dispatchers, they'll be assigned to other jobs in the police department. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says they can handle the extra work load, in a few years they will open a new 9-1-1 emergency communications facility.
