Authorities ID Man Fatally Shot by Deputy in Chisago Co.
An armed man who was killed by deputies in the North Branch neighborhood Sunday has been identified.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner has identified the man as 47-year-old Robert Elias Aho.
Deputies from the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, and an officer from the North Branch Police Department responded to a disturbance call on the 38000 block of Feaski Circle in North Branch around 9:27 p.m.
According to the MInnesota Department of Public Safety, the caller said the suspect, later identified as Aho, was armed and had threatened his wife with a gun.
When officers arrived Aho remained inside, but his wife, sister and step-daughter had already left the residence.
A preliminary investigation shows Aho came out of the garage with a rifle and a gun. Officers said he refused repeated instructions to put the weapons down, and then lowered the barrel of one of the guns to point at the officers.
Chisago County Sheriff's Deputy Steven Gregory Husmann fired his weapon, hitting Aho twice.
Aho was flown to Regions Hospital where he later died.
Husmann is a nine year veteran of the Chisago County Sheriff's Office. He and other responding officers have been placed on standard administrative leave.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation.
