Prosecutors Want 57-Month Sentence for Amy Senser

Prosecutors asked a judge Thursday to sentence Amy Senser to 57 months in prison, the maximum recommended under state sentencing guidelines, for the death of a Minneapolis chef, who Senser hit and killed with her SUV last year.

Senser is seeking probation and no prison time, after telling a judge in a sentencing memorandum filed earlier this week that she is, "heartbroken," and "deeply remorseful."

"She struggles every day with the fact that she is responsible, albeit accidentally, for the taking of a human life," the defense's court filing states.

Senser maintains she did not know she hit Anousone Phanthavong until the day after the incident on a darkened interstate off-ramp in Minneapolis.

Prosecutors with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office counter that Senser, the wife of former Vikings player Joe Senser, actually "has not shown remorse" and instead, "minimized her criminal choices with hollow excuses."

"In this case," the filing stated, "Defendant's lack of genuine remorse, her continued attempts to minimize the criminality of her conduct, her culpability in each crime, and her lack of candor at trial all suggest that these offenses and this offender merit a sentence at the "top of the box" within the presumptive guidelines range."

In May, a jury convicted Senser of two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide and a misdemeanor count of careless driving.

Senser is due to be sentenced before Judge Dan Mabley on Monday morning.
