Traveling War Memorial Heals Families
A local artist has brought life-size paintings to Lakeville for the July Fourth holiday.
Anita Miller says the idea came to her in a dream. But after 23 members of Lima company were killed in a series of IED explosions in Iraq in 2005, Miller wasn't sure she was capable of making her vision a reality.
Two years later, though, Miller had overcome her inhibitions and captured the spirits of those 23 service members in life-size paintings now on display in Lakeville.
The Eyes of Freedom will travel to 40 cities this year.
Miller says the families of the fallen service members gave their blessings for the project and have even healed from it.
The exhibit is on display in Lakeville through Saturday.
