EmailUp-Close Look at Flood Damage at Jay Cooke State Park
Jay Cooke State Park will be closed well into the fall. The park, just south of Duluth, was hit hard by flooding two weeks ago.
Bridges, trails, and roads were washed away by high water, including four major washouts on highway 210 in an eight mile stretch.
MNDOT officials say the process of fully repairing highway 210 will take not months, but years, and cost around $40 million.
"We want to get started on this project as soon as possible," said Martin Torgerson, the regional Parks and Trails supervisor. "It's a vital link, it connects the communities here, it gets people outdoors, and it also helps the businesses along this corridor."
The park is giving refunds for camping reservations and estimates it will lose around $175,000 of revenue from being closed this summer.
