Canterbury Park Cancels 4th of July Races, Events Due to Heat

Officials at Canterbury Park have canceled all races and festivities for the Fourth of July due to the extreme temperatures and heat index forecasted for Wednesday.
“The health of both our equine and human athletes as well as our race fans is always our primary concern. After consulting with Chief State Veterinarian Dr. Lynn Hovda, we have determined it is in everyone’s best interests to cancel tomorrow’s races.” said Canterbury Park President Randy Sampson.
The annual Fourth of July festivities include free hot dogs, a championship wiener dog race and a hot dog eating contest. Officials say they will all be made up on Saturday, July 7 with first post scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday night’s races and fireworks show will go on as scheduled.
