Search Continues for Missing 5-Year-Old Near Prescott, Wis.

Authorities in Pierce County, Wis., are continuing to search for a missing 5-year-old boy near Prescott.

Hundreds of volunteers and agencies from Minnesota joined the search for Scott Meyer, who was reported missing just before noon Tuesday. He was last known to be in the front yard of his home at N4842 1165th Street in the Town of Oak Grove.

"He is a non-verbal autistic male who also goes by 'Scotty,'" said a spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. He can hear well, he just doesn't always respond.

Searchers battled extreme heat and terrain as they looked for him in cornfields and along river bluffs. Three of the searchers were said to have been taken away by ambulance due to heat exhaustion.

Volunteers have been sent home overnight, while authorities continue their search.

If needed, volunteers can rejoin the search Wednesday morning. They are asked to meet at Prescott High School at 8 a.m.

The sheriff's office released this description of Scott:

  • 3 feet tall
  • short blonde hair in a buzz cut
  • blue eyes
  • wearing bright green shorts and no shirt
