Body of Missing Boater Recovered on Centerville Lake
Authorities in Anoka County have recovered the body of a missing 21-year-old man on Centerville Lake.
Crews had been searching for Thai Vang since early Sunday. He was last seen trying to swim through the weeds after the canoe he was fishing in capsized.
Another man in the canoe was able to make it to shore with help from other boaters. Neither man was wearing a life jacket.
Emergency crews responded to the scene on the 7200 block of Main Street in Centerville after a call came in just before 6:30 a.m.
Monday, crews battled hot weather and murky water during the search in an area 7 to 9 feet deep, filled with dense weeds. Visibility was only about 6 inches.
The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy.
A benefit fund has been set up at Wells Fargo in the name of Thai Vang.
