Crews Search for Body of Missing Man on Centerville Lake
Authorities in Anoka County say the search for a missing 21-year-old man on a Centerville Lake has now turned into a recovery mission.
The search was suspended Sunday night but resumed Monday morning.
Authorities say two people went into the water after a canoe capsized Sunday morning.
One was able to make it to shore with help from other boaters. Neither man was wearing a life jacket.
Emergency crews responded to the scene on the 7200 block of Main Street in Centerville after a call came in just before 6:30 a.m.
Monday, crews are battling hot weather and murky water.
"Trying to keep hydrated is the biggest thing. Our divers are sweating just putting on their wetsuit. And then getting into the water, you don't quite realize how much you actually do sweat until you get out of the water," said Lt. Paul Lenzmeier with the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.
Crews are searching in an area 7 to 9 feet deep, filled with dense weeds. Visibility is only about 6 inches.
"It's not an easy swim. It's very difficult, they are coming out with weeds all over their body and we are recycling the officers, trying to make sure that they stay hydrated," Lenzmeier said.
