Teen in Critical Condition After Pulled From Shakopee Lake

A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after being pulled from a Shakopee lake Friday afternoon.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says the teenager was fishing with family and friends on Lake O'Dowd when he jumped out of a rubber raft and attempted to swim about 20 to 30 yards to the shore of an island. It was at that time that the teen went under.

Authorities were called to the scene around 1:45 p.m. and crews located the teen in about seven to eight feet of water. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital and later to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The teenager, whose grandmother had been watching the group from shore, was underwater for about 30 minutes.

Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
