Charges in 2000 Fatal Stabbing in St. Louis County
A man accused of sexually assaulting and fatally stabbing a woman in St. Louis County 12 years ago has been formally charged.
A criminal complaint says 41-year-old Joseph Couture assaulted and stabbed Trina Langenbrunner and left her along a road in Brookston in September 2000. Couture is charged with intentional second-degree murder and criminal sexual conduct. He was arrested two weeks ago after two witnesses told authorities he admitted killing the 33-year-old mother of three.
The Duluth News Tribune reports prosecutor Jessica Smith hasn't made a decision on whether to present the case to a grand jury, which is required in Minnesota to bring a first-degree murder charge.
Couture is being held in the St. Louis County Jail on $1 million bail.
