Hail Causes Devastating Losses to Farmers in Southern Minn.

Farmers say hail is one of their worst enemies, and this week, hail struck southern Minnesota.

Experts with the University of Minnesota Extension Service held a meeting in Lafayette to help farmers assess their damages. About 200 farmers from four counties showed up. Some say their crops are a total loss.

It's too late in the season to replant corn, however, farmers have until July 4 to replant soy beans with the chance of getting a good enough return.

Insurance policies vary quite a bit, so they were also trying to determine whether they should estimate loss now or wait to see what their yield will be.
