Authorities ID Teen Who Died While Swimming in St. Croix River
We now know the identity of the 18-year-old who died while swimming in the St. Croix River.
Authorities say Alexander Cook, of Lake Elmo, Minn., was with several friends Monday around 5 p.m. when they decided to swim the 200-yard channel to the Minnesota side.
Authorities found Cook's body in the St. Croix River near Hudson Monday night.
Hudson police say Cook had made it a quarter of the way across when he began struggling and turned around.
It was around that time that he went under.
Murky water and a fast-moving current made the search difficult, but crews recovered his body around 11:45 p.m.
Police Chief Marty Jensen said he did not believe alcohol played a role in the incident.
