Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack is positioning himself as a middle-of-the-road centrist as he tries to keep his seat in a traditionally Democratic northeastern Minnesota district.
The freshman is a prime target for Democrats out to overturn Republican House rule, and outside groups are already involved in the race.
In an Associated Press interview this week, Cravaack emphasized votes where he bucked his party and time spent in the 8th District after his family moved to New Hampshire last year.
He says he has never lost sight of his constituents and spends as much time as possible in the district.
Democrats Jeff Anderson, Tarryl Clark and Rick Nolan are facing off in an August primary to take on Cravaack.
