Police Patrol Owatonna HS to Prevent Race Fights

In response to a fight between white students and Somali students, police have increased their presence at Owatonna High School.

Four squad cars were parked outside of the school Thursday and several officers patrolled inside.

The fight happened Monday and one student ended up in an area hospital.

Officials said racial tensions spiked after the fight and some students skipped class because they feared additional fights would break out.

The superintendent said educators addressed the racial issues with the entire student body and parents Thursday.

The stepped-up police patrols will remain in place at least through Thanksgiving.
