Anoka-Hennepin Board Votes Again to Close Schools

A second vote by the Anoka-Hennepin School Board on which schools to close, produced the same result as the first.

The board voted Monday to close six schools and repurpose two others.

Champlin, L.O. Jacob and Sorteberg elementary schools will close, as will Riverview Specialty School and Sandburg Middle Schools.

Washington Elementary School, Park View Early Childhood Center and Peter Enich Kindergarten Center will be repurposed.

The closures will also result in changes to school attendance boundaries.

The board first voted to make the changes in September. But board members later learned that they had failed to provide enough notice for public hearings on the proposals.

The board held another public hearing and rescheduled the vote.

The board said the schools selected for closing were all recommended by a Facility Use Task Force.

The school closure plan is designed to save the district $3.1 million in operating costs.
