Family members say he was a true Minnesotan who loved to hunt and fish. The U.S. Army alerted Randy's family today that they found his body. Bergquist's wife of 27-years, Pam, says Randy agreed to fly for the U.S. Army as a military subcontractor two years ago. His career as a pilot began in Alexandria. Jerry Sather worked with him at the airport in the 1980's and remembers him as a hard working flight instructor. "He was a good pilot, flew a lot in bad weather here and came back from Canada in bad weather and he did real good flying," said Sather. Randy was born in Bemidji and graduated from Princeton High School. His mother still lives in northern Minnesota. Pam Bergquist says her husband was on a NATO surveillance mission when his plane crashed. "Every pore of my body said he was walking out of there just because of how good a pilot he was," she said."He definitely died doing what he loved to do and for a good cause." Bergquist was a retired Customs and Border Air Patrol officer and a former Marine who went to Afghanistan for more than just money. His wife and son say they are expecting hundreds of people at the memorial service tomorrow in Jacksonville, Florida. |
