Visitors Caught Trying to Sneak into Target Field

Minneapolis Police say some Twins fans are not waiting for opening day to get a look inside the new Target Field, and it's creating a dangerous situation.

Police say Twins fans, too anxious for Target Field to open, have been sneaking in. They warn it is illegal and those who are caught will get punished. In fact, they say they could be banned from the stadium for the entire season.

"This is not a city or county park people can walk through whenever they feel like it," said Sgt. Jesse Garcia.

The new field has 4,000 feet of fence to keep people out, but police say it has not stopped some.

"We did have some visitors from Canada visit us late last night after the bars closed. They did not have any ill intent, but the police escorted them off the project," said Garcia.

"The workers are still here and they tell me it's not uncommon for them to run across early visitors to the stadium. They could go a week without seeing one, and in one day, see seven or eigh, usually they chase them off themselves, but sometimes they call the police," he added.

Stadium security measures have been stepped up and police on site have been authorized to make arrests.

"If someone's caught trespassing inside the stadium now, they could be issued a citation for trespassing, and they could also have some paper work filed banning them for a year from going back to the stadium," said Garcia.
