Census Finds Recession's Effects in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - New census figures bring more evidence that the recession has disrupted life in Minnesota as it has throughout the country.
The national decline in mobility in 2008 was seen in Minnesota, with an increase in the share of people living in the same house compared with 2007 and a decline in those who have moved to the state from elsewhere in the United States.
Minnesota state demographer Tom Gillaspy says with the collapse of the national housing market, people couldn't move even if they'd wanted to.
Median household income in the Twin Cities remained stagnant in 2008, which means that after adjusting for inflation households in the metro area brought in about as much last year as they did in 2005.
