Sen. Klobuchar to Announce Support for National Ban on Texting While Driving

Although the State of Minnesota already bans texting while driving, that is not the case in other states across the country. Senator Amy Klobuchar wants to see that change.

Klobuchar will be joined on Saturday by safe driving advocates for a news conference as she will announce her support to establish a national ban.

Thirty-two states have no laws that restrict texting while driving, including Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota. A recent national national survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 87 percent of the public considers texting while driving a "very serious threat" to their safety - nearly the same for drinking and driving.

The news conference will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the office of Senator Klobuchar on 1200 Washington Ave South in Minneapolis.
