Updated: 08/26/2009 4:03 PM KSTP.com | A Lack of Politics at the State Fair?Politics at the Minnesota State Fair is usually as commonplace as pronto pups and popcorn—but that may not be the case this year. Tucked between root beer huts and mini donuts, you'll still find an occasional politician, but not quite as many as you think—considering nearly 20 people say they're in the race for governor in 2010. In fact, only Republican Marty Seifert is the only candidate for any office with his own booth at the fair. Seifert's campaign says it wasn't expensive to establish a booth at the Great Minnesota Get Together. It was only $750 for the space and the set up for the booth was taken care of by volunteers. DFL contender Matt Entenza says he considered having his own booth, but ultimately decided to meet voters in the DFL Party's booth. In total, there will only be nine political booths at the fair—including one each for Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken. Klobuchar will be at the fair on Aug. 27 and 28 starting at 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively. St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman says he'll be on hand at the fair to greet visitors on Aug. 27 at 6 a.m. |
