'U' Marching Band Moves into New Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The University of Minnesota Marching Band moves into a new home Saturday.

Past and present band members are scheduled to unload hundreds of instruments and band uniforms into the new TCF Bank Stadium. The marching band is the first group to officially move into the stadium, where Minnesota begins playing football in September.

It's the first time in its 118-year history that the band has a home of its own. Northrop Auditorium was the band's rehearsal home for the past 79 years, but whenever other performers took the stage at Northrop, the marching band had to go outside.

Some 320 musicians perform at every Gophers home game.

The Gophers play their first football game in their new stadium against Air Force on Sept. 12.
