Rally Focuses on Health Care for Children
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The push to cover all kids comes to the state Capitol on Monday.
The Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota is bringing hundreds of children from its summer schools to a rally for health care for uninsured children.
The group says the nation's 9 million uninsured children include 85,000 in Minnesota.
U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum and state Rep. Bobby Joe Champion - both Democrats - will speak about efforts to overhaul the country's health care system. Democrats in Congress are struggling to develop a consensus health care plan, a top priority for President Barack Obama.
Jim Koppel of the state Children's Defense Fund says insured children fare better in school and society.
