MAHNOMEN, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota sheriff's deputy shot several times last February has been taken off a ventilator.

The wife of Mahnomen County Deputy Chris Dewey says he is resting comfortably. Dewey was placed on a ventilator Saturday when medication failed to slow his heart rate and control his blood pressure, his wife, Emily Dewey, wrote in a CaringBridge update Sunday.

Dewey is recovering in a Colorado hospital. He was attacked on Feb. 18 while investigating a suspected drunk driver. Two suspects were ultimately arrested after a nine-hour standoff.
