St. Paul Saints 2017 Season Preview

May 17, 2017 09:03 PM

Don't be surprised to see a lot of Mounds View High School apparel at St. Paul Saints games this year. The Saints' pitching staff features a pair of former Mustangs.

Mark Hamburger is back after going 12-6 with a 3.26 ERA in 20 starts last season.

"I love it here," Hamburger told KSTP. "To be able to call my actual home also my home where I'm able to work, my work just happens to be baseball, I guess I couldn't ask for anywhere better to be."

Hamburger is a veteran with the Saints, but Seth Rosin is a rookie in the American Association. Rosin bounced around the minor leagues after being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2010. Now he's excited for a fresh start in St. Paul.

"It's just fun seeing guys from Mounds View High School who showed up," Rosin said. "A bunch of people I knew were in the stands so it was really awesome."

Rosin still throws in the mid-90's and is expected to be a late-inning reliever.

The Saints have won back-to-back division titles, but that success has not transferred to the playoffs with back-to-back first round exits. The Saints take on the SouthShore Gary RailCats in their regular season opener Thursday night in St. Paul.
