St. Paul police are investigating a shooting, which they are now calling a homicide, that happened late Tuesday night on the 300 block of Burgess Street.

St. Paul police spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster said Wednesday officers were called to the area around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, Ernster said, they found evidence of a shooting but did not immediately find any victims.

Authorities then received information that a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound had been dropped off at Regions Hospital. The man was treated but was later pronounced dead.

Police remained at the scene Wednesday morning to investigate. A KSTP crew at the scene confirmed a crime lab was called to the area.

Ernster said police are interviewing witnesses and are asking anyone with any information to call the department at 651-266-5650. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the shooting.

Ernster said this incident marks the 10th homicide of 2017 in St. Paul.
