It's the time of giving and Minnesotans know it. In a recent WalletHub study, Saint Paul was ranked the ninth most caring city in the U.S., which pushes it ahead of Minneapolis, No. 20 in the nation.

Our neighbors across the border in Madison topped the list as the country's most charitable city.

The same group, however, named Minnesota as a state, the third most charitable state in the country, while Wisconsin was No. 5.

The largest 100 cities in the U.S. were compared and the rankings were determined based on homelessness rate, income donated to charity to special-education teachers per capita, and other 34 key metrics.
