Police: Injured St. Cloud 3-Year-Old Likely Pulled Trigger; Search on for Dad

St. Cloud police are searching for the father of a 3-year-old boy they believe accidentally pulled the trigger of a loaded firearm within his reach Monday morning.

The father, 28-year-old William Deandre Dickerson, is wanted for being a prohibited felon in possession of a firearm, and negligent storage of a firearm, a release from St. Cloud police said.

Officers responded to a residence on the 1500 block of 15th Avenue Southeast at around 11:17 a.m. Monday on a report of a child bleeding. While there, they were notified a mother had arrived at St. Cloud Hospital with her 3-year-old, who had a gunshot wound.

The release Tuesday said investigation indicates the shooting was an accident, based on negligent storage of the firearm.

The child's injuries are not considered life-threatening.

"We believe this was an accident and not somebody intentionally trying to harm the child," St. Cloud Police Cmdr. Brett Mushatt told KSTP. "It's a reminder to all people who own firearms you don't want to make that mistake.They need to be stored and locked away where children don't have access to them."  

Police sent out a release after 4 p.m. Tuesday saying Dickerson's car has been found. They have still not located him.
